Inspiring Techniques & News in Oceanside

Inspiring Techniques

News
!Jump in if you're in the Oceanside CA area!

I'm taking oil painting classes at the Oceanside Art Gallery with Joe Villela, he charges $20 a class, they are each 3 hours from 6pm-9pm on Tuesdays...Oils are the God medium of fine art!

I accidentally came across the JC Gallery and Studio when I got lost searching for a coffee joint, and it's been a discovery in my life akin to finding the Americas. It's owned by Joey Chavez, and he's been assembling a local art community which is something I would normally duck and run from, but even being an antisocial punk-ass, it's been an experience I'd never take back. I've started attending his figure drawing sessions, which are held on Wednesday nights at the gallery from 7pm-10pm. Visit the site for directions and contact information.

When I get to uploading my latest work you may be amazed at the change in skill, and it's due at large to both the oil painting course and from getting back into figure drawing.

Devious Plans

I've mentioned it before and it is still a work in progress, Returning Inspiration will be the first DA News article I submit, each issue will be accompanied by a linked collection. The first of this series in the works is 1000 Amazing Faces, I have been meticulously refining this collection to 1000 of the most Amazing Faces (technique-wise) that I am able to find through searching the archives of DA. If you've the time to give me a small hand with it, glimpse the collection thus far and if you can think of other portrait work that you believe merits inclusion I have space for about 13 more faces. Just reply with a link to it here.

for MASSIVE amounts of :+fav:'s

My 'favorites' section is a source of inspiration that I turn to when I seek to learn from other artists by staring...sometimes for hours...at their work. It's very important to me, and as I learn more and become capable of more myself, what I need to see in this gallery transforms as well, so I am reorganizing. As a part of this process, and in return for the inspiration you guys bring me, I will soon be starting a news series, and each issue will be accompanied by a very specific collection of work.

Please excuse the Spring cleaning.

Possibly your great admirer,

If you really like the work, it's great with me when you just :+fav: and run (that's what I do most of the time), but if you leave a comment, the ones I appreciate the most are when you tell me something. My conviction to my work is to push it beyond any limits I possess as I create, so it's helpful if you tell me things like why you like something, what you first notice, anything you are confused by (meaning you see something and have trouble discerning what it is), or if you leave any helpful tips you may have that don't necessarily apply to the image itself but which you think would help any artist. Stuff like that :)

That's it For the Old

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 23, 2009, 4:34 PM
Thank you for the insight which was offered on the art I've recently uploaded. It was a rewarding experience to learn new things from old work, and it was incredibly inspiring. Some of my replies will be a bit late when I have the time to respond, I was amazed and overwhelmed by so much great feedback.

...wanted to drop it out there also, if there are any fellow Christopher Moore fans watching, I recently got my hands on an unexpected surprise yesterday called 'Fool'
Enjoy!

Watchers please excuse...

please excuse what may appear as a drop in the quality of the work. I'll be adding some much older pieces, I want to include them before adding my newer work. This is not going to be every stick figure I ever made (:jester: I'll put those in the scrapbook) This work will be specifically chosen due to requests from those who know me and have asked for it, work I'd like to sell prints of or work I truly want feedback on in order to learn things I may have missed back when I made it.

Thanks for adding :twocents:

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
